The Americans say ,'We are the best'! Americans with their self assured smugness boast that all other Dobermanns couldn't possibly be as good as theirs ! On the other hand, few Europeans have any regard for American bred Dobermann. The Europeans see the American ones as gutless wimps, while the American see the European Dobermanns as an over - generalization .

However, somewhere in the middle are the true World Class Dobermanns. The cream of the crop is with a balanced mind, elegance and well formed bones. The ability to react in appropriately in any situation is what a Dobermann is all about !!

Differences in :

TEMPERAMENT :

European Dobes love their owners and totally loyal to them but they need spaceof their own. They don't tend to cling to their owners. They have a tendency to jump up on their humans, but don't hang on to them. They are more alert to everything around them. They are a good performance dog !

American dobes , on the other hand, have a very sweet,couch like disposition. They are more calm hence prove to be a good family dog.

OVERALL APPEARANCE :

The American Dobe is more refined and elegant. The European Dobe is typically more substantial with a thicker depth of body similar to a gymnast.

NECK :

This is one area where the American Dobe excels over its European counterpart. European Dobes have a shorter neck. It appear as if the neck is stuck on the body. The American Dobe as a longer and more elegant neck.

SHOULDER :

The American dogs usually have a more pronounced lay-back of shoulder angulation. On the other hand, our European Dobes have a better lay on of shoulder with a smoothness that is less common in America. Heavy, wide, rough laying shoulders more common in the European Dobes.

HEAD :

There is no doubt that the European Dobe has a much more pronounced head as compared to the American variety. The European head has a better plane, darker eyes and better fill under the eyes.

Choose which ever type suits you and enjoy their boundless energy, love and undying loyalty !!
