The word DOG, all by itself, has many meanings apart from the obvious one !
THE DOG OF GOD ::
1.The Laplander term for the bear,'which has the strength of ten men and the wit of twelve'.
2.An iron hook or bar with a sharp fang at one end which could be easily driven into timber and thus used to drag something by means of a rope (nautical)
