The word DOG, all by itself, has many meanings apart from the obvious one !
THE DOG OF GOD ::
1.The Laplander term for the bear,'which has the strength of ten men and the wit of twelve'.
2.An iron hook or bar with a sharp fang at one end which could be easily driven into timber and thus used to drag something by means of a rope (nautical)
3.Andiron, or hook for holding logs.
4.Cock of a gun.
5Gripping appliance.
6.Ostentation.
7.Male of various animals.
8.Spurious
9.Base.
10.Inferior.
11.very
12.Utterly.
13.To follow closely, to urge, to worry.
14.To follow insidiously or indefatigably.
15.To hunt or fasten with dogs
16.Dog was a term used in the past for ;fellow'.
17.Gay dog : Always out and enjoying himself,
18.Dirty dog: morally filthy
19.Surly dog: With a surly temper.
